China, the world’s biggest producer of solar energy by capacity
Reporting for Reuters, Ryan Woo said China’s installed PV capacity increased to 77.42 gigawatts at the end of 2016. Adding that the country added 34.54 gigawatts of solar power capacity in that year alone.
The Chinese provinces with the most capacity increase in 2016 are the Shandong, Xinjiang, Henan provinces.
Those that saw the greatest overall capacity increases where Xinjiang, Gansu, Qinghai and Inner Mongolia as indicated by data from the energy agency.
China plans to add an additional 110 gigawatts of capacity between 2016 to 2020. This is the plan tabled by the country’s solar power development plan via NEA.
66.2 billion kilowatt-hours of power were generated in 2016 by solar plants. Thus, accounting for 1 percent of China’s total power generation.The country aims to boost the mix of non-fossil fuel generated power to 20 percent by 2030 from 11 percent today.
China plans to plow 2.5 trillion yuan ($364 billion) into renewable power generation by 2020.
